The northwest of the Poitou region falls within the rural département of the Vendée, whose main attraction is the eighty-kilometre stretch of coast between chic Les Sables-d'Olonne and the northernmost tip of the scenic Île de Noirmoutier. Inland, there is little of interest, aside from a marvellous summertime spectacle at Les Épesses.
