Most of Rennes' more interesting bars and restaurants are to be found in the streets just south of the place Ste-Anne, towards the place des Lices. Rues St-Michel and Penhoët, each with a fine assemblage of ancient wooden buildings, are the epicentre at the moment. Ethnic alternatives are concentrated along rue St-Malo just to the north, and also on rue St-Georges near the place du Palais.Rue Vasselot is the nearest equivalent south of the river, though if you're just looking for a quick snack, don't forget the various outlets in the Centre Colombier. On a small street north from the river, near the tourist office, this place has mussels cooked in 32 different delicious ways for €6.50 at lunch, with frites €2.50 extra, or from €9 to €14 later on, plus more expensive fishy dishes.
