Buses to Auray, Quiberon and Vannes stop near the tourist office on avenue des Druides, and on rue St-Cornély in Carnac-Ville. In July and August, when the Tire Bouchon rail link runs between Auray and Quiberon, trains call at Plouharnel, 4km northwest of Carnac. Carnac's main tourist office is slightly back from the main beach at 74 av des Druides (July & Aug MonSat 9am7pm, Sun 37pm; SeptJune MonSat 9amnoon & 26pm; tel 02.97.52.13.52, www.ot-carnac.fr). An annexe in the place de l'Église in town is open in summer (AprilSept MonSat 9.30am7pm, Sun 10am1pm). Bicycles can be rented from several local campsites, or from Le Randonneur, 20 av des Druides, Carnac-Plage (tel 02.97.52.02.55). The Grande Metairie site also arranges horseback Tours. There's a market in Carnac Ville on Wednesday and Sunday mornings. Hotels in Carnac are at a premium in July and August, when you can expect higher prices and intense pressure to take half-board (demi-pension). Carnac-Ville is marginally cheaper than Carnac-Plage, although the distinction is blurred where the two merge. In Carnac-Ville, the old stone, ivy-clad Hôtel le Ratelier, 4 Chemin de Douët (tel 02.97.52.05.04; €4055; closed OctMarch), has menus from €15, while in Carnac-Plage, the Hôtel-Restaurant Ho-Ty, 15 av de Kermario (tel 02.97.52.11.12; €3040), is the best value. As befits such a family-oriented place, Carnac holds as many as nineteen campsites. Among the best are the two-star Men Dû (tel 02.97.52.04.23; closed OctEaster) near the sea, inland from the plage du Men Dû, and the more expensive four-star Grande Metairie (tel 02.97.52.24.01; closed mid-Sept to March), near the Kercado tumulus. Most of the restaurants worth recommending are in hotels one of the best is at the Hôtel Celtique, 82 av des Druides (tel 02.97.52.14.15; €4055).
