The tourist office in the gatehouse of the Château de la Verrerie (July & Aug Mon–Fri 10am–1.30pm & 2.30–7.30pm, Sat & Sun 10am–1.30m & 2–6.30pm; Sept–June Mon–Fri 9am–noon & 2–6pm, Sat & Sun 2–5pm; tel 03.85.55.02.46) can arrange visits to coal mines in the vicinity, and may be able to help if you want to tour the modern ironworks. Frequent buses connect Le Creusot with the TGV station 6km away in Montchanin, connecting with Paris. If you need to stay overnight, head for La Belle Epoque, 9 place Schneider (tel 03.85.73.00.00, fax 03.85.73.00.10; €40–55), which has a decent restaurant.
