The oldest and most cheerful of Ajaccio's many beachside paillotes, with a terrace opening straight on to the sand. World cuisine dominates the menu and there's usually live music from 8.30pm. Sublime local seafood, stylishly prepared, and served in an airy dining hall overlooking the marina. Weekday lunchtimes are dominated by business clients, but the suits and mobile phones peter out in the evenings. If your budget can stretch to it, go for their €34 menu poisson frais. Closed Sat & Sun lunchtimes. Les Halles rue des Halles tel 04.95.21.42.68. Open since 1933, and the favourite lunch venue for market stallholders and local office workers. They do a cheap and cheerful €14 menu with wild boar or fresh fish of the day, and a choice of omelettes and fresh pasta.
