The port
Ste-Catherine airport lies 7km south of Calvi (tel 04.95.65.08.09); the only public transport into town is by taxi, which shouldn't cost more than €14–16. The train station (tel 04.95.65.00.61) is on avenue de la République, close to the marina, where you'll find the tourist office on quai Landry (mid-June to Sept daily 9am–7pm; Oct to mid-June Mon–Fri 9am–noon & 2–5.30pm, Sat 9am–noon; tel 04.95.65.16.67). Buses from Bastia and towns along the north coast stop outside the train station on place de la Porteuse d'Eau, whereas those from Porto pull in behind the marina.

Ferries, including NGV hydrofoils, dock at the Port de Commerce at the foot of the citadelle, and the SNCM office is at quai Landry (tel 04.95.65.01.38). You can rent bikes from Ambrosini on place Bel-Ombra, on the way out of town towards Porto (tel 04.95.65.02.13), and cars from Hertz, 2 rue Maréchal-Joffre (tel 04.95.65.06.64), or Budget at the airport (tel 04.95.65.88.34).

Accommodation is easy to find in Calvi except during the jazz festival (third week of June). Hotels range from inexpensive pensions to luxury piles with pools and sweeping views of the bay. If you're on a tight budget, take your pick from the town's two excellent hostels, or the dozen campsites within walking distance of the centre.
