Hard as it is to picture now, chic little Cassis once had a busy industrial harbour, while at La Ciotat ships were built right up until 1989. La Ciotat is probably the friendliest of all the resorts between Marseille and Toulon, and has the distinction of being at the origin of film-making. Tucked in a cove between La Ciotat and Toulon, Bandol is a rarity on the Côte d'Azur, a family resort which has managed to maintain something of an unhurried air.
