France for visitors

Fréjus
France > Côte d'Azur > Fréjus and St-Raphaël > Fréjus

The population of FRÉJUS, remarkably, was greater in the first century BC than it is today if you just count the residents of the town centre, which lies well within the Roman perimeter. But very little remains of the original Roman walls that once circled the city; and the harbour that made Fréjus an important Mediterranean port silted up early on and was finally filled in after the Revolution. It's the medieval centre, much more than the classical remnants, that evokes a feel for this ancient town. If you like to stay in a Fréjus hotel, this website has a lot.
