Villa Serena
Roquebrune and Cap Martin merge into Menton along the three-kilometre shore of the Baie du Soleil. The modern town is arranged around three main streets parallel to the promenade du Soleil. The gare SNCF is on the top one, boulevard Albert-1er, from which a short walk to the left as you come out brings you to the north–south avenue de Verdun and avenue de Boyer divided by the Jardins Biovès – central location for citrus sculptures during February's Fête du Citron. The tourist office is at 8 av Boyer (July & Aug Mon–Sat 9am–7pm, Sun 9am–1pm; Sept–June Mon–Fri 8.30am–12.30pm & 1.30–6pm, Sat 9am-noon & 2–6pm; tel 04.92.41.76.76, www.villedementon.com), in the Palais de l'Europe; the building was once a casino, but now hosts various cultural activities and contemporary art exhibitions.

The gare routière and the urban bus station are between the continuation of the two avenues north of the train line on the esplanade de Carei. All the local bus lines (€1.10) pass through the gare routière. The district of Garavan, further east again, is the most exclusive residential area and overlooks the modern marina.

Accommodation is, as ever, a problem. Menton is no less popular than the other major resorts, so in summer you should definitely book ahead. The tourist office won't make reservations for you, though they will tell you where there are rooms free.
