Surprisingly, there's no great abundance of good restaurants in Périgueux. Apart from the hotel restaurants listed here, the best general area to look is around rue Limogeanne and place St-Louis. A couple of places to try are the upstairs restaurant at Au Petit Chef, 5 place du Coderc (closed Sat eve & Sun), with a wide choice of menus from €11, and Au Bouchon, 12 rue de la Sagesse (closed Sun & Mon), a wine bar serving a mix of Lyonnais and local cuisine – count on around €18–20 per head. For something slightly smarter, La Ferme St-Louis on place St-Louis (tel 05.53.53.82.77; closed Sun) serves a limited but well-priced three-course menu (€14.50 at lunchtime, dinner €19) while Hercule Poireau, 2 rue de la Nation (tel 05.53.08.90.76), offers top-quality food at surprisingly affordable prices (menus from €16.60). And if you fancy a change from strictly French fare, Le Canard Laqué, 2 rue Lanmary, is a good and popular Chinese place with menus from €10 (closed Sun & Mon).
