Jura
On the broad upland plateau, the Jura landscape unrolls, stretches and rises in increasingly abrupt steps to the mountains bordering the Swiss frontier. With its lakes and pine forests, small farming communities and – at the higher altitudes – huge ski resorts enveloping tiny villages, semi-deserted in summer, this is the most beautiful area of the Jura and, as you might expect – despite trains linking Champagnole, Morez and St-Claude with Arbois and Pontarlier – best appreciated with your own transport.

Pages in section ‘Central Plateau’: Champagnole, Lake District, Haut Jura.
