France for visitors

Banks and exchange
France > Basics > Money and costs > Banks and exchange

Core banking hours are Monday to Friday 9am to noon and 2 to 4.30pm. Some branches close on Monday, while others stay open at midday and may also open on Saturday morning. All are closed on Sunday and public holidays. They will have a notice outside if they do currency exchange. Rates and commission vary from bank to bank, so it's worth shopping around.

There are money-exchange counters (bureaux de change) at French airports and train stations of big cities, with usually one or two in town centres as well, often keeping much longer hours than the banks. You'll also find automatic exchange machines at the same locations, though they offer a very poor rate of exchange.
