The gare SNCF and gare routière (tel 04.67.92.01.43) are next to each other at the opposite end of rue Maguelone from the central place de la Comédie. The airport, Montpellier-Méditerranée (tel 04.67.20.85.00), is 8km to the southeast beside the Étang de Mauguio; buses run every half-hour from the gare routière (15min; €4.55). Much of the city centre is pedestrianized, so you'll have to look further out for places to park: the best areas are Antigone, to the east, and boulevard des Arceaux, to the west. The tourist office (July & Aug MonFri 9am7/7.30pm, Sat 10am6pm & Sun 10am1pm & 25pm; SeptJune MonFri 9am6pm, Sat 10am6pm & Sun 10am1pm & 25pm; tel 04.67.60.60.60, www.ot-montpellier.fr), which has money exchange facilities, lies at the east end of place de la Comédie, opposite the Polygone shopping centre. TAM city buses ply between the stations and outer districts (as far as coastal Palavas), while the Petibus traverses the city centre tickets cost €1.07 (day ticket for €3.20) and cover both services for one hour, including transfers. The green transport policies of Montpellier have also resulted in the construction of a tramway, sweeping across town from northwest to southeast, as well as over 120km of bike paths running throughout the city and as far as the sea. Most hotel accommodation is conveniently concentrated in the streets between the train station and place de la Comédie, or in the nearby centre of the old town. There's a well-equipped hostel in a renovated old building in impasse Petite Corraterie, off rue des Écoles Laïques (tel 04.67.60.32.22, fax 04.67.60.32.30; closed mid-Dec to mid-Jan; bus #6, stop "Ursalines"), plus several campsites around Montpellier, particularly in nearby Palavas (bus #28); the closest to the centre is L'Oasis Palavasienne (tel 04.67.15.11.61; closed mid-Oct to March).
