Arrival, information and accommodation

The gare SNCF is south of the centre, about a ten-minute walk from the Château. Bus #6 (#25 on Sun) makes the journey to the tourist office and Château, while buses #1 and #16 will take you to central place du Raillement; a flat-rate bus ticket, which you can buy on board, costs €1. The gare routière is down by the river, just past the Pont de Verdun on place Molière. The main tourist office is on place Kennedy, facing the Château (June–Sept Mon–Sat 9am–7pm, Sun 10am–6pm; May Mon–Sat 9am–6pm, Sun 10am–6pm; Oct–April Mon 2–6pm, Tues–Sat 9am–6pm, Sun 10am–1pm; tel 02.41.23.50.00, www.angers-tourisme.com); it sells a €8 Museum pass, which allows access to the tapestries as well as the city's museums and galleries.

As you'd expect from a mid-sized city, there's a wide range of accommodation on offer, and finding a room shouldn't present too many problems, though it's still wise to book ahead in summer.
