Bourges's main centre for eating is along rue Bourbonnoux, which runs between place Gordaine and the cathedral Place Gordaine itself is attractively medieval but mostly good only for pizzas. D'Antan Sancerrois, at no. 50 rue Bourbonnoux (tel 02.48.65.96.26; closed Sun & Mon lunch), features excellent local goodies served in an atmospheric, high-ceilinged dining hall (à la carte mains from €1013); while the smart Bourbonnoux, at no. 44 (tel 02.48.24.14.76; closed Sat lunch, Fri & Sun eve out of season) has some ambitious regional menus (€1230); and La Crêperie des Remparts (tel 02.48.24.55.44; closed Sun & Mon lunch) has a better-than-usual range of crêpes, galettes and salads. Nearby, Le Louis XI, 11 rue Porte Jaune (tel 02.48.70.92.14; closed Sun), serves impeccable steaks and chargrilled meats in a small, informal dining room (menus €922.80). For a complete change, the friendly Margouillat, at 53 rue Édouard Vaillant, beyond Place Gordaine (tel 02.48.24.08.13; closed Sun and Sat & Mon lunch) offers delicious food from Réunion such as giant prawns or pork and beans served with hot dips, plus delicious tropical desserts and cocktails (menus €1319).Those with a sweet tooth should head for the excellent pâtisserie Aux Trois Flûtes, on the corner of rues Joyeuse and Bourbonnoux; for chocolates and the local sweet speciality of fourrées au praliné try the imposing Maison Forestines, on place Cujas. Good drinking venues include Pub Murrayfield, 11 rue Jean Girard (MonSat 2pm2am, Sun 4pm2am), a popular Scottish pub just off Place Gordaine; and l'Esprit Club, 81 rue Gambon (MonSat 3pm2am) a studenty cybercafé five minutes northwest of rue Moyenne, with DJ nights at weekends and occasional live gigs.
