Practicalities
France > Loire > Cher > Montrichard > Practicalities

Montrichard's tourist office is in the Maison Ave Maria (tel 02.54.32.05.10, www.montrichard-fr.com), an ancient house with saints and beasties sculpted down its beams, on rue du Pont. The only enticing hotel is La Tête Noir, 24 rue de Tours (tel 02.54.32.05.55, fax 02.54.32.78.37; €40–55), with its terrace on the river, but the Hôtel de la Gare, beside the station (tel 02.54.32.04.36; €30–40) is inexpensive and decent enough. The atmospheric Manoir de la Salle du Roc, 69 route de Vierzon (tel 02.54.32.73.54, fax 02.54.32.47.90; €70–85), offers grand chambres d'hôtes set in an ancient manor house above the main road leading west from Bourré. There's also a campsite, L'Étourneau (tel 02.54.32.10.16; closed mid-Sept to May), on the banks of the Cher.

Decent meals can be had at Les Tuffeaux, a brasserie on Montrichard's main square, Place Bartélémy Gilbert. On the D17, the smaller of the two roads from Montrichard to St-Aignan, between Angé and Pouillé, a good-value restaurant, Le Bousquet, serves simple meat dishes cooked over a charcoal grill and cheap jugs of local AOC wine in an old wine cellar (tel 02.54.71.44.44; July & Aug Tues evening to Sun; Sept–June weekends only).
