For somewhere central to stay, the Auberge St-Jacques (tel 05.65.72.86.36, www.aubergestjacques.fr; €3040), near the church, provides good-value, old-fashioned accommodation and also has a popular restaurant, with menus from €13.50 and plats du jour at €811. A good alternative is the Auberge du Pont Romain, on the main road below the hill on which Conques stands (tel 05.65.69.84.07, fax 05.65.69.85.12; €3040; closed first two weeks Nov; menus from €12.20) it's a twenty-minute walk from here to the church. A little way upstream, the attractive Moulin de Cambelong (tel 05.65.72.84.77, www.moulindecambelong.com; €7085) offers more comfort some rooms have spacious wooden balconies with great views of the river and a first-rate restaurant, specializing in duck dishes (menus from €30).There's hostel-type accommodation at the Résidence Dadon (tel 05.65.72.82.98; under €30) directly above the abbey, and a gîte d'étape next door (Mme Guibert; tel 05.65.72.82.98). There are several campsites in Conques: try Beau Rivage, on the banks of the Dourdou, just below the village (tel 05.65.69.82.23; closed OctMarch), St-Cyprien-sur-Dourdou (tel 05.65.72.80.52) or Le Moulin, at Grand-Vabre (tel 05.65.72.87.28; closed NovMarch), 5km downstream.
