France for visitors

Basse Normandie
France > Normandy > Basse Normandie

As you head west along the coast of Basse Normandie from Le Havre, a succession of somewhat smug and exclusive resorts – of which only Honfleur is especially memorable – is followed first by the beaches where the Allied armies landed in 1944, and then by the wilder, and in places deserted, shore around the Cotentin Peninsula. There are two absolutely unmissable sights – the glorious island abbey of Mont St-Michel and the Bayeux Tapestry.

Pages in section ‘Basse Normandie’: Caen, D-Day beaches, Bayeux, Cerisy and Balleroy, Cotentin Peninsula, Mont St-Michel.
