France for visitors

Arrival
France > Normandy > Seine Maritime > Dieppe > Arrival

Dieppe's tourist office is on the pont Ango, which separates the ferry harbour from the pleasure port (May, June & Sept Mon–Sat 9am–1pm & 2–7pm, Sun 10am–1pm & 3–6pm; July & Aug Mon–Sat 9am–1pm & 2–8pm, Sun 10am–1pm & 3–6pm; Oct–April Mon–Sat 9am–noon & 2–6pm; tel 02.35.84.11.77, www.dieppetourisme.com). Bicycles can be rented very cheaply from Buscyclette, just across the bridge (tel 06.24.56.06.27). The main post office is at 2 bd Maréchal-Joffre (Mon–Fri 8.30am–6pm, Sat 8.30am–noon; tel 02.35.04.70.14); Internet access is available both there, and at Cybercab, 48 rue de l'Epée (Tues–Sat noon–7pm, Sun 2–6pm).

Daily ferry services between Newhaven in England and Dieppe's gare maritime are operated by Hoverspeed, whose SuperSeaCats take just over two hours for the crossing (late March to Sept only, 1–3 daily; in France, call 00800.1211.1211, www.hoverspeed.com), and Transmanche Ferries, using conventional vessels that take four hours (2–3 daily; tel 08.00.65.01.00, www.transmancheferries.com). Motorists coming off the boats are directed away from the town, and have to double back west to reach it; foot passengers can either walk the 500m to the tourist office, or take the €2.50 shuttle buses that connect with each sailing.

Dieppe's gare SNCF is another 500m south of the tourist office, on boulevard Clemenceau, and trains are much the quickest way to get to Rouen or Paris. Buses along the coast leave from the gare routière alongside.
