Unlike the hotels, which sometimes have cheaper weekend rates, Rouen's upmarket restaurants tend to charge more over weekends, when families eat out. The greatest concentration of restaurants is in place du Vieux-Marché, where there's a daily food market, while the area just north is full of Tunisian takeaways, crêperies and so forth. Some of Rouen's most agreeable bars are in the maze of streets between rue Thiers and place du Vieux-Marché. Incoming sailors used to head straight for this area of the city, and the small bars are still there even if the sailors aren't.
