Café Jehanne d'Arc place Jeanne-d'Arc. Situated a fifteen-minute walk northeast of place d'Armes, this place features medieval beams and frescoes, and occasional music. There are free jazz concerts in the square every Thursday evening in summer. Till 2 or 3am.

Café Mathis 72 rue En-Fournirue. A minute old-time place spilling over into the garden of the former chapel of St-Genest in summertime, opposite a house where Rabelais once lived. Closed Sun.

Comédie Café quai Vautris, just across the Pont-Des-Roches from the theatre. Studenty bar/café with games, jukebox and TV. Open daily till 2am.

Les Trinitaires 10–12 rue des Trinitaires, north of place Ste-Croix, opposite Café Jehanne d'Arc. The place to go for serious jazz, rock, folk and chanson, enhanced by the Gothic cellars. Live music at 9pm. Closed Sun & Mon.

Le Tunnel 27 place du Quarteau at the south end of place St-Louis. Loud rock music with your drink. Till 12.30am during the week and 2.30/3.30am weekends.
