Compiègne has no shortage of cheap places to eat, such as À la Dernière Minute on place de la Gare and the crêperie La Bolée on rue St Martin. More rewarding restaurants are the Bistrot de Flandre, 2 rue d'Amiens, and Le Bouchon at 5 rue St-Martin, a wine bar offering a lunch menu at €11 and plats du jour for €8. Le Lombard, a contemporary bar/brasserie on rue des Lombards, has a good range of gourmet salads which should please vegetarians. Next to the Hôtel des Beaux Arts, at 35 cours Guynemer, is one of Compiègne's best restaurants, the Bistrot des Arts; it serves traditional bistro food with a twist, accompanied by excellent wines, for around €25 a head (closed at weekend lunchtimes). For just a pastry and coffee, try Les Muscadines, 1 rue Solférino, just by the bridge, which has a relaxing atmosphere and magazines to browse through. On Saturdays, there's a big all-day market in the square by place de l'Hôtel-de-Ville.
