Île de la Jatte France > Paris > West > Île de la Jatte
Above La Défense, to the northeast, the Île de la Jatte floats in the Seine just off rich and leafy Neuilly, a pleasant haven away from the city and an agreeable spot for some al fresco dining on a hot summer's evening, though it is much more developed than when Georges Seurat captured the scene, A Sunday on La Grand Jatte, with tiny dots of paint in 1884. From the Pont de Levallois, near the métro of the same name, a flight of steps descends to the tip of the island. Formerly an industrial site, it's now part public garden (MonFri 8.30am6pm, Sat & Sun 10am8pm) and part stylish new housing complex. On the right of the development, a former manège (riding-school) has become the smart Caféde la Jatte, while beside the bridge the old Guinguette de Neuilly restaurant, with its pleasant riverside terrace, still flourishes.
