The gare SNCF is on avenue Général-de-Gaulle, while long-distance buses pull in beside Pont Arago, on avenue Général-Leclerc. Both stations are a ten- to fifteen-minute walk from the regional tourist office on quai de Tassigny (daily 10am12.30pm & 26.30pm; tel 04.68.34.29.94). Further along the River Basse is the municipal tourist office in the Palais des Congrès at the end of boulevard Wilson (mid-June to mid-Sept MonSat 9am7pm, Sun 10amnoon & 27pm; mid-Sept to mid-June MonFri 9am6pm, Sat 9amnoon & 26pm; tel 04.68.66.30.30, www.perpignantourisme.com). For information and tickets for city buses, visit Kiosque CTP (MonSat 9amnoon & 1.456.15pm) on place Péri, near the regional tourist office. There are some cheap hotels near the station, of which the best are Le Berry, 6 av de Gaulle (tel 04.68.34.59.02; under €30), and the Paris-Barcelone (tel 04.68.34.42.60, fax 04.68.35.28.12; €4055), right opposite the station. Another very cheap possibility, and convenient for the gare routière, is the Expéditeurs, on the rather desolate avenue Leclerc (tel 04.68.35.15.80; under €30), with a good cheap restaurant. More comfortable are the Hôtel Poste et Perdrix, 6 rue Fabriques-Nabot (tel 04.68.34.42.53, fax 04.68.34.58.20; €4055), and Le Maillol, tucked away down impasse des Cardeurs off rue St-Jean (tel 04.68.51.10.20, [email protected]; €3040), also nearby. In addition, there is a welcoming, if somewhat noisy, HI hostel (tel 04.68.34.63.32), behind the public gardens of La Pépinière by Pont Arago (entrance around the back of the police HQ on avenue de Grande-Bretagne), and two campsites: La Garrigole (tel 04.68.54.66.10), on rue Maurice-Lévy, and Le Catalan (tel 04.68.63.16.92), on rte de Bompas; both are signposted from the centre.
